Running a business in Nigeria comes with enough challenges — managing sales, paying suppliers, handling expenses and keeping track of money. Keeping good records shouldn't make things more complicated.
TaxMateNG helps you record your income and expenses, understand how your finances are moving, and access useful tax and reporting tools when you need them.
Whether you are an individual professional, freelancer, trader or business owner, you can start with a simple habit: record what comes in and what goes out.
Here is how to get started.
When you first open TaxMateNG, you will be asked to choose between two workspaces:
Personal Records & Income Tax
Choose this if you want to keep track of your personal income and expenses. It is suitable for individuals, freelancers, self-employed professionals and people managing their personal tax affairs.
Business Records & Company Tax
Choose this if you are managing the finances of an incorporated business. This workspace provides tools for recording business transactions, managing relevant business information and handling company tax matters.
Select the workspace that matches what you want to manage.
Once your workspace opens, you can begin recording transactions.
In the business workspace, look for the Record Sales or Expenses action on your dashboard.
Use it to record everyday business activities, such as:
Sales received from customers.
Payments made to suppliers.
Transport and delivery costs.
Electricity, fuel and other operating expenses.
Other business-related income and expenses.
Enter the transaction details, select the appropriate category and provide the amount.
You don't have to enter every transaction your business has ever made before getting started. Begin with today's activity and keep adding records as you go.
A simple habit makes a difference: record what comes in and what goes out.
Your dashboard gives you a quick view of your recorded business activity.
Depending on your workspace, you can use it to review recent transactions and get a clearer picture of your income, expenses and financial activity.
In the business workspace, the dashboard also provides a cash flow overview, helping you see the movement of money into and out of your business.
To review your complete transaction history, select All Transactions. From there, you can inspect your records and find specific entries when needed.
Regularly reviewing your records can help you spot expenses, follow up on payments and make better business decisions.
You don't need to use every feature on your first day. As your records grow and your needs change, TaxMateNG provides additional tools to help you manage different aspects of your finances.
In the business workspace, explore these sections:
Manage Business
Access business management tools, including employee information, payroll-related features and asset records.
Tax & Compliance
Find tools for company tax calculations and other relevant tax and compliance information, including Company Income Tax (CIT), Development Levy and Capital Gains Tax (CGT).
Reports & Exports
Access available financial reports, tax computations and export options to help you review and prepare your records.
Cash Flow & Runway
Get a broader view of business cash movement and financial activity.
All Transactions
Review your complete transaction history.
These tools are there when you need them. You can begin with everyday record-keeping and explore the more advanced features at your own pace.
For incorporated businesses, TaxMateNG includes a Finalize Corporate Year function for the year-end process.
Before using it, make sure you have reviewed your transactions, business records, relevant tax information and available reports.
Year-end finalization is an important process, so it should only be carried out when you are ready to close the relevant financial year. It is not something you need to do when first setting up the app.
If you are unsure about your figures or tax position, consider having an accountant or qualified tax professional review them before proceeding.
You don't need to become an accountant to keep better records. You simply need a consistent way to record your financial activities.
Start with one sale or one expense. Keep adding transactions as your day-to-day activities happen. Over time, those records can give you a clearer picture of how your finances are doing.
Know your numbers. Keep better records. Make better decisions.
